I have a 10 year old pair of Salomon Vitesse 2 skates. The blades and
wheels are in good shape but the boots are near the end of their
lifespan. The skates fit my extrawide feet better than anything else
I've tried, so I'd like to just replace the boots. I'm wondering if
it's possible to use Mag Elite boots on the Vitesse frame. Mag Elites
are occasionally on ebay (unlike Vitesse's) so if it's possible to
swap out, I'd get ME's (had a pair of those before the Vitesse's and
they fit great), ditch the frames and just use the boots. I live in
the US and Salomon has pulled out of the US market, so I can't go to
them for info. Any thoughts from youz guys?

All the Salomon skates with removable frames had the standard spacing for
the frame bolts (newer skates with 4x100 and larger wheels usually have a
new standard spacing that is an inch longer).
Your frame swap will work.
I have put TRR (predecessor to the Vitesse frames) on their earlier skates
and knew others that put other racing frames on them.

London Skaters has an old review
(http://www.londonskaters.com/review_salomon_tr_vitesse_2002.htm) on their
site that indicates that the Mag Elite boot is also a good match for the
Vitesse boot. Many of their other boots on the 4 wheel skates were taller
and I did not like the feel of it with the long frames.

I was fortunate enough to hear of a store that was closing out Vitesse 3s
and bought a pair at that time. My Vitesse 2 boots were showing some wear
and may still get put on the 3 frames (5x84mm) when the "new" boots wear
out.

Like you, I find that the Vitesse boots fit me better than the current
skates.

Salomon, has gone out of the skate business entirely. They looked at their
product lines and got rid of the ones where they felt that they were not
doing well and kept their core products. There used to be a document on
their web site that was intended for their employees explaining the changes.
I was surprised that they put it in a public location on their site.
